The Tallest ‘Tilt’ Coaster in the United States Will Launch in Ohio Next Year
This looks absolutely insane! Virtually out of nowhere, Cedar Point made a huge announcement a couple of days ago. The Sandusky, Ohio amusement park unveiled plans for what promises to be the "tallest, fastest and longest" tilt coaster in North America.
Now, you may be asking, "What in the heck is a 'tilt' coaster?" Well, it's exactly what it sounds like. The roller coaster and the track it sits on tilt- in mid-air- then aims the coaster up with the rest of the track before releasing the braking mechanism and launching the train along its way.
Here's a great example of a tilt coaster already in operation. This is video of Gravity Max from Discovery World in Taiwan!
Does that not look absolutely terrifying and insane?
Well, next year, coaster enthusiasts here in the United States will get a taste of what it's like to experience a tilt coaster with Siren's Curse. Cedar Point made the big announcement late last week and shared video of what the ride is going to look (and feel) like.
According to park officials, the ride is inspired by the legend of the sirens in the waters of Lake Erie. Folklore claims those sirens, with their seductive songs, were able to lure sailors underwater- to their deaths.
Here's another video capturing what the experience will be like for riders.
Siren's Curse will be 160-feet tall, feature a 90-degree tilt, speeds of nearly 60 miles per hour, 13 moments of weightlessness, and two 360-degree, zero-gravity barrel rolls. When it debuts, the ride will be Cedar Point's 19th coaster. It will be yet another reason why Cedar Point is considered the Roller Coaster Capital of the World.
Siren's Curse is designed by Vekoma, the leading pioneers of coaster design.
