You Can Help Send an Owensboro, KY Man to Africa for St. Jude
On Wednesday, October 9th, Brandon Cox will be leaving his Owensboro, Kentucky home for the adventure of a lifetime. He's headed to Tanzania, Africa to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and he's doing it for an incredible cause. He's raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Earlier this year, Brandon joined a St. Jude Heroes Project to make that climb. By signing on, he agreed to raise a minimum of $12,000. Because of the generosity of many community members, he's almost there. But you can be part of the story too. To help get him to the top of that fundraising mountain, WBKR is teaming up with Brandon, Lure Smoke Shack, Texas Roadhouse, Beverly’s Hearty Slice, Fastek Services, and Pigtails and Cowlicks Consignment for a massive Yard Party and send off!
The event is set for Friday, October 4th from 11am to 1pm at WBKR, which is located at 3301 Frederica Street in Owensboro. Lure Smoke Shack is preparing lunch and attendees can enjoy Pulled Pork Sliders with Jicama Slaw and Green River Bourbon BBQ Sauce. The sliders will be served on freshly-baked Texas Roadhouse rolls and served with Loaded Potato Salad and Roasted Street Corn Salad. Plate lunches are being served for a suggested donation of $15. Of course, those proceeds will benefit St. Jude.
By the way, we have to give a shout out to Beverly's Hearty Slice. The Owensboro-based nonprofit is donating drinks to Brandon's event.
The WBKR/Brandon Cox/St. Jude Yard Party is rain or shine. However, the forecast is looking perfect! As of this story, we're expecting sunny skies and a high near 80. Everyone is invited to join "for a day of great food, fun, and philanthropy."
Lunch preorders are being accepted as well. You can order ahead online for the whole office at https://brandoncox.co/wbkr. Orders of six or more can be delivered by request within the city limits of Owensboro between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Brandon simply asks that you place your order by Tuesday, October 1st to ensure availability.
In addition to lunch, there will be more festivities and some really fun giveaways taking place. Local singer/songwriter Dustin Matthew Taylor will be performing live on the front lawn. Plus, we're going to be giving away passes to ROMPtober Weekend, which takes place October 11th and 12th at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
