National Weather Service Warns a Winter Storm Could Bring Snow, Ice, and Dangerous Temps to Indiana and Kentucky
I was really hoping for a white Christmas this year, but it ended up being nearly 50 degrees out! It definitely felt more like Florida than winter. But if you’re still hoping for some snow, you might just get your wish. A winter storm is on the way, and things could get pretty messy. Welcome to the tri-state!
While other local forecasters have been tracking the storm for a few days, it wasn’t until this morning that the National Weather Service officially warned that this system could bring some dangerous conditions with it.
Winter Storm to Impact the Tri-State
The NWS posted this to Facebook:
We are monitoring a storm system that may bring impactful wintry precipitation (snow or ice) to portions of the central U.S. early next week (most likely centered on Sunday). There is a lot of uncertainty in the details and how much, if any, snow/ice impacts our region. Stay tuned for updates through the week!
Saturday/Sunday Forecast
Saturday Night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming east southeast after midnight.
Sunday: Rain and snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. East southeast wind 7 to 11 mph.
Cold Air to Move in After
Forecaster Tony from Ohio Valley Weather Watch Facebook page posted that dangerously cold temps will follow.
The storm system next weekend may be the main event, but the real show-stopper will be the dangerously cold air that's set to move in afterwards. We could see some dangerously cold wind chills well below zero. We could see high temperatures not getting out of the teens and possibly some single digits in parts of the region. We've even had some data hinting at possibly some lows getting to zero or even below zero. Stay safe and stay warm, folks!
