Feelin’ the January Blues? Evansville’s Mesker Zoo ‘Boop the Snoot’ Photos Will Cheer You Right Up
Why January Feels Like the Coldest, Darkest Month of the Year
January is the coldest, darkest, and most dreary month of the year. In fact, this past Monday was Blue Monday, a term created by a U.K. travel company, Sky Travel. They claim the third Monday of January is when happiness levels supposedly hit their lowest. While I’m not sure there’s any solid research to back that up, I’ll admit that after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I feel a little blue. After all, I have to wait an entire year to do Christmas again, six months until summer, four months until Easter, and—don’t even get me started—10 months until Halloween! It’s just a whole lot of blah.

On top of that, the weather is crazy cold, and this year, we’re dealing with some downright dangerous temperatures. When it’s this cold, I always feel bad for the animals out in the elements. My husband tells me to stop worrying about “unnamed animals” because, according to him, God made them to endure (and even enjoy) the cold. Take Huskies, for example—they actually prefer snow and cold weather. And our horse isn't a fan of being blanketed when the weather’s bad. In fact, my mom couldn’t even get hers to come inside during the ice storm. Maybe he just thought it felt refreshing.

Why Mesker Zoo Is Always Open—Even When Wind Chills Drop Below Zero
Speaking of animals, did you know that Mesker Zoo is open 365 days a year—even on those days when wind chills dip below zero in the tri-state? Animals still need to be fed, cared for, and attended to, so the staff is working around the clock, all year long. They are totally dedicated, even when the weather is at its worst.

They must have felt just how blah the tri-state was on Blue Monday because they posted some really cute 'Boop the Snoot' photos on their Facebook page. I figured I'd share the sunshine so I reached out to Blake Shockley, the marketing director for more.
