The $46 million move is being supported by Illinois' Reimagining Energy and Vehicles (REV) program and is expected to make the state a national leader in lithium metal battery production.

New Facility in Fulton Market

Pure Lithium's new facility will open this year (2025) in Chicago's Fulton Market district, which has become a thriving hub for innovation in tech and clean energy manufacturing, according to the press release.

According to Pure Lithium's CEO Emilie Bodoin, this shift to Chicago will allow the company to launch a semi-automated battery pilot line, integrating lithium metal reactor technology to fast-track commercial production.

Strategic Partnerships and Incentives

Because of the proximity to Argonne National Laboratory will increase research capabilities, especially with collaborations on scaling recycled lithium metal anode production.

A Clean Energy Powerhouse

Illinois officials say Pure Lithium's relocation highlights the state's clean energy roadmap.

DCEO Director Kristin Richards emphasized in the press release that because of Illinois' infrastructure, skilled workforce, and pro-manufacturing policies, the Land of Lincoln is rapidly becoming a clean energy manufacturing powerhouse.

Other companies like Rivian and Wieland are also investing, along with Pure Lithium, with more expected to be announced soon.
