Only Do This at Illinois Gas Stations if it’s a Real Emergency

Ever had to push the Emergency Fuel Pump Shut Off button at the gas station?  If not, here's what happens if you ever have to.

I've always had the fear that my gas pump latch would get stuck and overflow onto the ground.  Well, it happened to a friend of mine, and he had to think really fast.

He was at Woodman's getting gas when the latch to his pump was completely stuck. What do you even do in this situation?!  Gas keeps coming out, you're paying so much more than you were hoping, and there are no attendants around to help.

This is what my friend, Brett, did.  He became the most hated person at the pump.

"I hit the emergency shut off button…which shut off ALL THE PUMPS at the station. Alarm went off, the fire department showed up…it was a mess. Felt really bad about it."

I'd literally cry.  I'd be so embarrassed and apologize to everyone around me.  Even though he was forced to hit the button, it sucks that everyone else's pumps shut off, too!

This actually wasn't the first person this happened to.  His friend said she had the same problem just a few days prior.  What gives?!

Next time you're at the gas station and your latch gets stuck, preventing you from stopping the pump, don't hesitate to hit the Emergency Turn Off button... but know you might get side-eyed the entire walk back to your car.

Hey, better to get the side-eye and nasty looks than have your bank account drained from an overflowing pump!
