Festival Goers: Get Your Glitter to Stay Stuck and Last All Day – and Night with This Hack
I know not everyone loves glitter, but if you're like me and believe there is no such thing as too much of the sparkly stuff, especially while attending a music festival, I have a hack that will help your glitter last all day - and night!
Day to Day Life Can Be Pretty Mundane
In my day to day life, I am what some might call pretty boring when it comes to my overall asthetic and sense of style. I often wear my hair in a messy pony tail, and can usually be spotted in a band tee, cardigan, and combat boots.
I Sometimes Look Like I Stayed Up Too Late
I guess you could say that I look like a mix between your favorite, kooky Gen-X auntie and Adam Sandler. While I do wear makeup most days, it's usually just enough to keep me from looking like I stayed up until 3am doom-scrolling social media.

We All Deserve to Sparkle
As much as I aspire to be one of those cool festival girlies with the bold graphic liner, and amazing eyeshadow looks, my artistic makeup skills just aren't that good. However, there is no shame in my glitter game! I think we all deserve to sparkle, and I want to share how I make my glitter last for hours - even in the crazy heat and humidity of a music festival.
A Few Things to Know About the Festival Glitter Hack
Before I share my hack, there are a couple of things that I want to point out. First, this is a broke-girl hack, meaning I am not using expensive products to pull this off. Second, I'm also not using cosmetic grade glitters for this hack. So with that, be very cautious about using this around your eyes and do not use this on your eyes.

*Gasp! I Use Craft Glitter - Don't Come for Me
What I'm about to say will be controversial for some. Again, this is just how I do it... I use chunky craft glitter. I want to emphasize chunky craft glitter. You do not want to use any type of fine or small flake glitter because even if you don't use it around your eyes, it can easily migrate, especially when it comes time to take it off and that can pose a serious risk to your vision.
Chunky Craft Glitter + A Very Specific Hair Gel
Alright, chunky glitter. Got it! Now what? Hair gel, but not just any hair gel. Sure you could probably use just about any of them, but I use the Got2Be Ultra Glued hair gel that comes in the black tube. It's the same kind often used for wig installations because it literally holds like glue once it's dried. It's what's holding my glitter on at Bonnaroo in the photos below.
Use a Flat Foundation Brush to Apply Glitter + Gel
I like to mix a little gel with enough glitter to make it chunky and then spread it with a flat, foundation brush. I apply it on my cheeks like freckles, on my temples, or across my chest and shoulders. You could also apply the gel in a thin layer to these areas first and then stick the glitter on top, but I prefer to mix them first.
Dry Down Your Glitter + Gel With a Fan
You may think you're done, but if you want it to last all day and night, there are a couple more steps. First, grab your festival fan or your little battery fan, and dry down your glitter and gel. Once the gel has dried down, you're ready to move on to the final step.

Set It and Forget It
Much like you reach for your favorite setting spray to seal your makeup, you'll want to set and seal your glitter. Again, we want our sparkles to be heat, sweat, and dance proof. This is where I grab my can of Got2Be Glued Blasting Freeze (Hair) Spray, and I spray a mist across all the parts of me that I have glittered. And while this should go without saying, close your eyes and hold your breathe.
Your Face and Body Glitter Will Not Budge With This Hack
When I tell you that your glitter won't move, I mean it won't budge until you shower. This hack has lasted through hours of walking, dancing, eating, changing outfits, and even sleeping after I was too tired to take it off at camp before bed.

It's Easy to Take Off Too: Rub-a-Dub-Dub
When you're ready to take it off, hop in the shower (or if you're festival camping - hose off beside your car), lather up good with soap, and rinse it all away.
One Last Festival Tip
Whether you try my glitter hack or not, if you're planning to attend an outdoor music festival, do be sure you drink some water now so you are hydrated when you get there. Your skin and your body will thank future you for hydrating now.
