Now That’s a Knife! World’s Largest Pocketknife on Display in Kentucky
The Guinness Book of Records' World's Largest Pocketknife can be found in Kentucky, but it's very unlikely you'll be able to fit this one in the pocket of your blue jeans.
Every year, I make a trip down to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to take in the scenery and visit a few of my favorite vacation locales. One of those just happens to be Smoky Mountain Knife Works—the World's Largest Knife Store. I've spent hours walking through the store with my buddies, who are honestly much larger knife enthusiasts than I am. Still, I have a great time every year, and at the end of my browsing, I pick out a pocketknife to carry around for the next year.
The World's Largest Pocketknife
Whether you're someone who collects pocketknives or uses them for practical purposes, chances are you'll love Smoky Mountain Knife Works. Additionally, about five hours northwest of the world's largest knife store lies another steely landmark you'll want to check out—the world's largest pocketknife. You can find it on the grounds of Red Hill Cutlery and the Kentucky Museum of American Pocketknives in Radcliff, Kentucky.
Who Made the World's Largest Pocketknife?
Creating the world’s largest pocketknife was an effort spearheaded by Red Hill Cutlery, in collaboration with W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. and the Radcliff/Fort Knox Tourism Commission. The knife itself was built by Modern Welding in Elizabethtown and detailed by Ward Frahler of Glenn’s Auto Body Shop in Vine Grove. It was made to replicate a Case XX Genuine Stag Barlow pattern and sits upon a platform made of reinforced steel, concrete, and brick.
How Big is the World's Largest Pocketknife?
Finished in 2019, this massive knife tips the scales at over 6,200 lbs of American steel, featuring a 20-foot handle and a blade stretching more than 17 feet. It's certainly the spitting image of a classic Barlow knife, but definitely not one you could carry with you on the daily. It almost looks like a giant guillotine. Either way, I'm adding this Kentucky destination to my bucket list. You can see a picture of the landmark HERE.
