Viral Video Claims an Evansville High School is One of the Worst in the U.S.

You might be surprised to find that a viral video has named one Evansville, Indiana high school one of the worst in America.

You will see and hear a lot about schools across the state. When it comes to where you send your children to school, it's important that you have your kids in a really good school system. Now, we have a lot of those scattered all throughout the Evansville area. I feel like my kids are in one of those now and they both are thriving making straight A's...which is something that I never did. Likewise, in the news or on social media, you will see a lot of hot takes about school systems not doing so well and failing the kids. That happens in Indiana and all throughout the United States.

One such "hot take" is a video on TikTok that has gone viral that ranks the worst high schools in America "based on academic performance". A friend of mine shared this video with me, and I was surprised to find that a school here in Evansville made the list. You can check out the video below.

Really? North High School?!

North High School coming in at number eight on the list of worst high schools in the United States, was very shocking to me. Granted, I didn't go to North, nor do I know much about the school in general. That being said, I haven't really heard anything bad about it either.

So the video just says that the rankings are based on academic performance, but where did this information come from? After a quick Google search about the worst high schools in the United States, I noticed that none of the articles ever mentioned North High School in Evansville. In fact, US News shared data about North High School, and those results would mean that North is nowhere near the top ten worst high schools in America. Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation, and how well they prepare students for college.

According to US News, North High School in Evansville is ranked number 3,230 out of 17,655 nationally ranked schools. It's also ranked number 64 out of 395 schools ranked in Indiana. I am failing to see how North High School can be ranked the eighth worst high school in America given this data. Data that a source can actually back up, unlike this TikTok video.

Again, I am very curious to know how the TikTok user got their information, but I believe it's safe to say that North High School is not one of the worst high schools in the United States. This is just another example of how you shouldn't believe everything you see on social media.
