A once-popular chain restaurant is now down to only one location in Indiana. What happened?

Throughout the years, there have been a lot of popular chain restaurants that have thrived, and out of nowhere, it seemed like they just disappear. I'm sure that you can think of a few restaurants you frequented back in the day that are no longer around. One of those restaurants was one that I was thinking about just the other day. It's a chain that hasn't gone out of business completely, but it's getting harder and harder to find locations throughout the country.

TGI Fridays History

TGI Fridays opened its first location in 1965 in Manhattan, New York. Throughout the years, the restaurant evolved into a chain and had about 600 locations at its peak in 2008. TGI Fridays is known for its loaded potato skins, burgers, wings, drinks, and overall fun vibe. It was a pretty popular place to go watch a game at the bar or enjoy a great meal with the family. However, the chain has closed hundreds of locations and is now down to just 85 restaurants in the US. Long story short, the decline is due to several factors, including underperforming stores, the pandemic's impact, and more recently, filing for bankruptcy.

How Many TGI Fridays Locations are Left in Indiana?

I wish I could tell you how many Fridays locations Indiana had at its peak, but I have not been able to get an exact number from my Google searches. What I can tell you is the number of locations that remain open in the Hoosier State. That number is a staggering...one.

The last remaining Indiana location of TGI Fridays is located in Evansville, attached to Eastland Mall. Being from the Evansville area myself, every time that I go to Eastland Mall, Fridays seems like it sees a steady amount of customers coming in and out. So hopefully we won't see the last remaining location in Indiana closing anytime soon.
