I Can't Believe They Still Make These Jeans

I had a weird junior high school experience. I was as nerdy and uncool as you could get in 7th grade, and quite frankly, I enjoyed it. When 8th grade rolled around, I had made the cheer squad, developed a chest area, discovered hair dye, and started taking an interest in how I looked. In other words, the boys started to notice me. Although I had finally entered the proverbial "cool kids circle", I was still very uncool in a lot of ways. One of those ways? My non-JNCO jeans. Never in my life have I owned a pair of the most sought-after denim of my teeny-bopper years. But I have good news; They still make them, and I can finally fulfill my junior high dreams of owning a pair.

What Are JNCO Jeans?

Everyone had a pair of JNCO jeans in the late 90s and early 2000s, even though the company has been around since 1985. I'm not sure if it was the "skater" revolution that made them popular, but at least one kid was wearing JNCOs every single day of my junior high career. Male or female, the jeans fit the hip and flared to the bottom, but not flared like some cute bell-bottoms. This flare is so large you could fit a neighborhood in the hemline. The base of the pants is purposely oversized, which is what sets them apart from the rest. Rainy day? Better not wear your JNCOs, or you'll be carrying puddles everywhere you go. The jeans were also known for the brand logo or artistic image on the oversized back pocket of the pants. The images varied in size, design, and color scheme, and this is the primary difference, aside from typical denim options, between JNCO and the rest.
