Indiana University Offers Class All About Dolly

I remember when I was considering which colleges I wanted to go to, as if anything but Indiana University was an option. In the five minutes I spent looking at actual class offerings, I remember how fascinated I was to read they offered a bass fishing class. In fact, Bobby Knight infamously taught it. All I was interested in was anything but the classes I was signing up for (especially Arabic...don't ask). However, had they offered a class strictly about Dolly Parton and her legacy, maybe I would have shown up to class a little more often. While I may have been a few years short of this dream come true, thanks to Professor of Anthropology Sarah Phillips, IU students now have this opportunity.

Welcome to the Anthropology of Dolly Parton

I can only imagine how incredibly awesome this class is, and I hope these students appreciate it for all that it is. Sarah Phillips is a professor of Anthropology at IU, and before you ask, here's the definition (I had to look it up too). During COVID, Phillips dove headfirst into everything Dolly, reading what seems like every book Parton ever wrote, among other adventures. From there, she started the course The Anthropology of Dolly Parton, which has been active at the University for two years now. The course looks at Parton's upbringing, songwriting, musical career, and everyone's favorite, her business savvy. In fact, Professor Phillips is working on getting a field trip to Dollywood as part of the class requirement. Anyone else ready to go back to college?
