This Indiana College Earns Spot on a List of the Most Haunted in the U.S
One university in the Hoosier state is said to be among the most haunted in the country.
College Life
It's a time when you're a young adult, so you're old enough to make decisions about your future and your education, but young enough that you don't have a ton of responsibilities just yet. So when you think of college things like classes, dorm rooms, and partying (responsibly of course) all come to mind. Something you don't tend to think about when you think of college is ghosts. Unless you go to one of the most haunted universities in the country, which you can find right here in the Hoosier State.
Haunted Universities
While you don't normally think of college campuses as paranormal hotbeds, there are a few campuses around the country that are known to have a few students that have been around for years (and years, and years, and years...). Recently Best Colleges shared a countdown of the most haunted colleges across the country, and Indiana's own University of Notre Dame made the list.
A Haunting at Notre Dame
I grew up with a dad who has always been a huge Notre Dame fan, so I've always been familiar with the Fighting Irish. However, I had no idea that the campus of Notre Dame had legends of hauntings surrounding it. The most notorious ghost story from Notre Dame is the ghost of George Gipp.
Win One for Gipper
According to the College Football Hall of Fame the the ghost of a former Notre Dame football player haunts the halls of the campus. Legend has it that on the campus of Notre Dame in 1920 George Gipp was out celebrating his final football game against Northwestern University.
George missed curfew and got back to campus to find he was locked out of his dorm. He slept outside that fateful night and it is widely believed that contributed to his death as he contracted pneumonia and later died from complications. It's said that students who lived in Washington Hall on campus heard strange noises, footsteps, and even loud music after George's death.
College Football Hall of Fame explains:
Gipp’s spirit lives on through football, as his story is one of the many Notre Dame football legends passed down over the years. On his death bed, Gipp made this famous plea to coach Knute Rockne, “I've got to go, Rock. It's all right. I'm not afraid. Some time, Rock, when the team is up against it, when things are wrong and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to go in there with all they’ve got and win just one for the Gipper. I don’t know where I’ll be then, Rock. But I’ll know about it, and I’ll be happy.”
