While Christmas may still be a few months away, it's never too early to prepare for the season of giving. The Salvation Army of Evansville has announced that they will begin taking applications for Christmas assistance via Toy Town starting this week and continuing through October 28, 2024. Over 1,000 families are expected to apply this year both online and in person.
What Is 'Toy Town' in Evansville?
According to the Salvation Army of Evansville, Toy Town is designed for families experiencing hardships that make it difficult to provide gifts or food for family gatherings during Christmas. Last year, The Salvation Army, in partnership with Southwestern Indiana Toys for Tots, served over 1,000 families and more than 2,700 children in the greater Evansville area.
Families in need are encouraged to sign up for assistance, which can be done either in person or online. Applications can also be submitted on the Salvation Army of Evansville website by clicking HERE. Additionally, in-person signups will be available at the organization’s physical location in Evansville at 1040 N. Fulton Avenue. The dates and times are listed below:
- Tuesdays – October 8 and 22 / 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
- Thursdays – October 10 and 24 / 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
- Saturdays – October 12 and 26 / 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
How Can I Help the Evansville Salvation Army Prepare for Christmas?
The Salvation Army annually helps more than 23 million Americans overcome poverty, addiction, and economic hardships through a range of social services. However, it does take an "army" to accomplish that mission, and Toy Town is no different. For businesses, groups, or individuals wanting to get involved, the Salvation Army of Evansville is in need of volunteers to effectively care for all who need assistance. You can sign up to volunteer by clicking HERE.
“In the spirit of joy and giving, our annual Toy Town program is more than an event. It’s a celebration of others, where smiles light up the season and every gift carries the magic of Christ’s love,” said Captain Brandon Lewis, Corps Officer & Southwest Indiana Area Coordinator for The Salvation Army. “We are once again excited to fill hearts and homes with the enchanting spirit of Christmas!”
