SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a young jockey has died after being injured during a race at a central Indiana horse racing track. Indiana Grand Racing and Casino in Shelbyville says the horse ridden by Juan Saez clipped heels with a horse in front of him during a race last night. Marion County chief deputy coroner Alfarena Ballew says Saez died after being airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana State Board of Education will meet today to discuss a new school-grading formula and new school grades for the past year. Former state schools superintendent Tony Bennett secretly altered the grading formula in 2012 to benefit Republican Party donor Christel DeHaan's Indianapolis charter school. State education leaders launched an intensive review of the school grading formula soon after that was revealed.

FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. (AP) — The Indiana State Museum says it will break ground later this month on a $3.2 million visitor center. The October 29th groundbreaking for the new Levi Coffin House Interpretive Center will coincide with the 175th anniversary of the home. The museum says more than 1,000 freedom seekers passed through Levi and Catherine Coffin's home.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue alumnus Charles Walker will speak at the university next week. Walker flew aboard three NASA Space Shuttle missions as the first industry-sponsored engineer and researcher. He was the first private astronaut in space. Walker's talk is free and open to the public.
