Will the tristate see a white Christmas this year? According to Ron Rhodes, Daybreak Meteorologist at Eyewitness News:

Historically, our chance for a white Christmas here in Evansville is around 15%. So snow on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day is fairly rare. But the odds of a white Christmas this year are looking pretty good. The week ahead appears to be a wet one & that trend should continue through Christmas. With a trough of low pressure over the eastern U.S. on Christmas, moisture shouldn't be hard to come by. Of course, the temperature needs to be cold enough for snow.

We meteorologists check to see if the temperature is below freezing at around 5,000 feet up. We find this out using the 850 millibar chart...which shows the temperature well below freezing on Christmas Eve. It's too early to give a percentage chance, but I'd say we have about a 50-50 shot of a white Christmas this year.
