Though it's March and we are crazed with March Madness and all things basketball, take a moment and think back to a time when we all were looking forward to the greatest game of football and the commercials that surround it. Do you remember a particularly moving commercial of a woman ordering a pizza? Only she wasn't actually ordering a pizza - she was desperately asking for help from a 911 operator because of a domestic abuse situation.

When Candice Perry, Director of Albion Fellows Bacon Center, sent us the video and asked us to help spread the word about Albion and all the services it offers, we gladly accepted. But, we didn't want to just put the message out there - we wanted to get our community involved. Domestic abuse is very real, and it happens right here in the tri-state. In fact, domestic violence is extremely common in our world. 2-4 million American women are beaten each year by their husbands or boyfriends; 4000 of them are killed. It’s hard to give exact numbers because many do not report their abuse. But today, we stand up and say "No More." Together, with our community leaders and people who are specially trained to aid and assist those who want to get out of an abusive relationship, we want to help you say, "No More" too. Whether you want to take a stand and support those who feel trapped, know someone who is being abused or are being abused yourself, we can help you find the resources available to you.

If you are being physically or sexually abused – you are not alone and there is help for you. The Albion Fellows Bacon Center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They can help with emotional support, a safe place to live, legal advocacy and more. They also have opportunities for you to get involved and support those who need you. Call their toll free line at 1-800-339-7752. In Owensboro and surrounding Kentucky area, Oasis can provide similar services. You can reach them by calling 1-800-88-ABUSE.
