Evansville Parks and Recreation Department officials have stated the pool will need to be drained in order to repair damage to the liner.

The liner was damaged after an undetermined number of people entered the pool area after hours at some point late Wednesday night / early Thursday morning and tossed a picnic table, several folding chairs, lounge chairs, and a couple of concrete-filled volleyball poles into the deep end.

It has been reported the vandals also damaged shower heads and toilets in the men's room, and broke the front of a soft drink machine on the property.

The incident prompted a visit from Mayor Lloyd Winnecke who tweeted a picture of the items sitting under the water, while expressing disappointment in the residents who caused the damage, and has since stated his office will be evaluating security at all city pools.

The pool will be closed for an unknown amount of time as Parks Department officials evaluate the extent of the damage, and discuss repair options with the company who originally installed the liner a couple of years ago. Parks and Recreation Director, Denise Johnson, tells the Evansville Courier and Press "It could become a very costly episode of vandalism."

If you or someone you know has any information on who is responsible for the damage, contact the Evansville Police Department at (812) 435-6194, or the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's new anonymous WeTip line at 1-800-78-CRIME.
