Purple Aces head men’s basketball coach Marty Simmons has added another Indiana native to his roster as Ryan Taylor will transfer to the University of Evansville and be eligible to play in the fall of 2016.

Taylor was a freshman at Ohio University last season where he started 28 out of 30 games while averaging 8.1 points per game. He gained valuable experience in his time with the Bobcats, playing over 30 minutes per game.

“We are excited to welcome Ryan to our program, he had a great start to his collegiate career last season and we look for him to continue that at Evansville,” Coach Simmons said. “Ryan is an extremely talented player who will make an immediate impact on our team next year.”

His career at Ohio U. started off with a bang as he set his career mark with 21 points on a 9-of-13 effort versus Appalachian State. His quick start continued three games later as he tallied 16 on an efficient 7/10 effort against Belmont.

Another strong outing saw him pour in 17 points against DePaul while his top effort in a Mid-American Conference game came in a battle at Bowling Green. In that contest, he recorded 16 points. In total, he had nine double-figure scoring games with 21 in his debut against Appalachian State being his highest total.

Prior to his collegiate career, Taylor played at Michigan City High School in Gary, Ind. He averaged 14 points and three rebounds in high school while also spending a prep year at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield, Wisc. In his year with the prep school, he posted 23 points per game.
