‘Uncharted’ Has Found a Director in ‘Horrible Bosses’ Helmer Seth Gordon

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything new about an ‘Uncharted‘ movie, with many directors having circled the project. But now Sony has hired ‘Horrible Bosses‘ and ‘Identity Thief‘ helmer Seth Gordon to take on adapting the video game franchise for the big screen.

This news comes from Deadline who note that Gordon is “in negotiations.” He would then be the third high profile director to take on the project. Previously David O. Russell was on the title for a while (with Mark Wahlberg rumored to star), though he left the project after ‘The Fighter’ proved a box office success. Neil Burger, who is directing ‘Divergent,’ was also attached, but then the project went dormant for over a year as Sony went out to screenwriters, including Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Gordon went from directing documentaries like ‘King of Kong’ to doing comedies, though he’s seemingly wanted to branch out for a while, as he was attached to a ‘War Games’ remake. His ‘Uncharted’ will likely be an action comedy in the ‘Raiders of the Ark’ mold (much like the game), which means Gordon will have to work on his action skills — or hire the best second unit directors in the business. The current draft of the script is by ‘Safe House’ screenwriter David Guggenheim, and the soonest we’re likely to see this on the big screen is 2016.
