The Walking Dead‘ creator Robert Kirkman has conquered the small screen with the AMC adaptation of his comic book, and now he’s looking to bring his talents to the big screen as he’s set up to make ‘Air,’ a film he’ll produce and which will star Djimon Hounsou, and ‘TWD’ regular Norman Reedus.

The Hollywood Reporter has the exclusive that ‘Air’ is currently set up at Sony Pictures, with video game writer/creator Christian Cantamessa directing the low budget film that he co-wrote with Chris Pasetto. THR offered this as the film’s synopsis: “The story is set in an underground cryogenic facility after a nuclear fall-out renders the atmosphere unbreathable. Air centers on its two custodial workers (Reedus, Hounsou) who take care of the cryogenically sleeping personnel that are to re-establish society, but they struggle to preserve their own sanity and lives while maintaining the extremely fragile environment of the last livable place on earth. ”

For Hounsou this is nothing new. The actor, who’s been twice-nominated for an Oscar, bounces between prestige pictures and genre fare, and will be seen in the upcoming films ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘ and ‘Fast and Furious 7.’ For Reedus this is a bigger deal. The actor was set up to be the next big thing about fifteen years ago, but he never clicked. ‘The Walking Dead’ turned his stock around, and perhaps now he’s ready for the big screen. This casting may not spell good things for his character on the hit TV show, a show that has made a point of killing off important characters. Perhaps this is Kirkman’s gift for killing off his character Daryl in the near future, but this is just baseless speculation.
