‘After Camelot’ Officially Chosen as ReelzChannel Sequel to ‘The Kennedys’
It seems you just can't keep 'The Kennedys' down, no matter how hard history tries. Earlier in the month we'd heard chatter that ReelzChannel might be looking to follow up its successful historical mini-series 'The Kennedys' with a sequel series following the later generations, and now it seems the network has made it official. But what will provide the source material for the new mini-series, and who might take part from the previous outing?
As if 'The Kennedys' didn't court enough controversy in its dramatic depiction of JFK and his immediate family, the sequel might be even more scandalous. Deadline reports that ReelzChannel has officially decided to move forward with a sequel series, to be based on Randy Taraborrelli’s bestselling book 'After Camelot,' chronicling the family history from 1968 to the present.
It remains unknown if Katie Holmes, or any of the previous 'Kennedys' cast might reprise their roles, but considering the project was developed by The History Channel in 2010 and dropped for dramatizing history, before bouncing around and ultimately landing at ReelzChannel, we wouldn't necessarily expect it. In spite of the controversy surrounding ‘The Kennedys,’ the series helped cement ReelzChannel as a major player and went on to win four Emmys, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Movie/Miniseries for Barry Pepper.
“The Kennedy family is truly a part of the fabric of America and we’re thrilled to once again work with our partners at Muse Entertainment to bring our viewers this fascinating and continuing story,” said Stan E. Hubbard, CEO of ReelzChannel. The series will likely be an eight-hour event, as with its predecessor.
What say you? Do you think ‘The Kennedys’ have more stories to tell in 'After Camelot?' Would a second go be as controversial as the first? Who might return to the sequel series?
