The CW Eyes Reduced-Order Renewals for Bubble Shows
Earlier today, news broke that NBC could be next in line to issue early renewals to the series of its current line-up, with plenty of shows on the bubble for cancellation. CBS and FOX have already issued mayor renewals, along with The CW’s pickups for ‘Arrow,’ ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ and ‘Supernatural,’ but what other CW series are on the chopping block? And which might get truncated final season orders bolstered by online sales?
The major network Upfront presentation have yet to truly roll out, but plenty of broadcast and cable networks have already set their sights on which series to renew or potentially cancel. After word broke that NBC could be next in line, now Deadline has revealed that The CW could soon issue truncated orders to such bubble series as ‘Nikita,’ ‘Hart of Dixie‘ or ‘Beauty and the Beast.’
Neither of the three series boast significant ratings for The CW, but still enjoy a healthy online viewership, while CW president Mark Pedowitz remains committed to allowing series to finish on their own terms. ‘Nikita’ in particular could return for a final season of 6-13 episodes, as show-runner Craig Silverstein moves toward AMC pilot ‘Turn.’
Online ad sales have also helped keep struggling prequel ‘The Carrie Diaries‘ afloat, while its brand association with ‘Sex and the City’ could help net a second season. On the pilot side, Deadline reveals that ‘Vampire Diaries’ spin-off ‘The Originals‘ will also likely appear on the fall schedule.
What say you? Would you be willing to accept truncated final seasons for ‘Nikita,’ ‘Hart of Dixie’ or ‘Beauty and the Beast?’ What CW series do you think deserve renewal?
