Look, a lot of bad things happened in 2016 (so much so that the entire year has become a meme), but it’s time to look forward to all the promising things 2017 might bring — and your streaming BFF Netflix is already on top of it. There’s plenty of good stuff hitting the service in January, including premieres of Netflix Originals like A Series of Unfortunate Events and the YA film Coin Heist, as well as classics like Boogie Nights and The Shining.

Just as Netflix Instant giveth, so must Netflix Instant taketh away, and while there are plenty of great new titles coming to the streaming giant’s service in January, there’s almost just as many that will expire. Now’s a good time to stop procrastinating and finally get around to checking out some of those 30 For 30 specials, or maybe binge-watch every season Murder, She Wrote (you can knock out 12 seasons of Jessica Fletcher in two weeks, right?). January also sees the exit of teen classics like Bring It On and Sixteen Candles, which sounds like a great Saturday night double feature — but you only have a few more weeks to make that happen.

Netflix boss Ted Sarandos set an impressive goal for 2016, upping its number of original series from 16 to 30, but who wants to get complacent? The streaming service wants to do it again in 2017, doubling its already-doubled original series count with a heavy push into unscripted fare.

It’s not quite a streaming service hooked up to your eyeballs, but if there’s one thing Netflix subscribers have clamored for, its the ability to watch TV and movies on occasions where internet connections aren’t explicitly available. So it is, that Netflix will now let viewers download its programs at no extra cost.

The best thing about the beginning of a new month is the slew of new releases and classics coming to Netflix Instant. Wishing you could have a rom-com double feature? Good, because now you can with How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Bummed you missed two art house releases, Greek comedy Chevalier and last year’s Palme d’Or winner Dheepan? No problem. Have you been itching for a good cry and Titanic movie night? Wait no longer! (Sorry, I buried the lead. Titanic coming to Netflix is all that matters.) On top of those, the new season of dystopian tech thriller Black Mirror hits Netflix Instant next month, plus Christopher Guest‘s Mascots and Ava DuVernay’s documentary The 13th. It’s gonna be a good month of you, your TV and your couch.

These days, it'd take at least two years to watch only only one season's worth of #PeakTV, a quarter of which won't even be around a second year. Just make sure you leave time for a double feature of ‘Zoolander’ and ‘Crocodile Dundee.’ Also what the heck is ‘My Babysitter’s a Vampire: The Movie?’ I don’t know, but I think you need to add it to your queue immediately before you miss this opportunity.

September is only a week away – can you believe it? – and with a new month comes a whole new batch of movies and shows to keep you stuck on your couch. Next month you can look forward to new Netflix Originals like the second season of ‘Narcos,’ ‘Chef’s Table: France’ (make sure you’re stocked with baguettes and brie), and the Amanda Knox documentary. Other highlights include ‘Zootopia,’ all four ‘Jaws’ movies, Season 1 of ‘Supergirl’, Season 6 of ‘The Walking Dead,’ and most exciting for Marvel fans, the series premiere of ‘Luke Cage.’ Cancel your plans, it’s going to be a good month to stay in.

Last we’d heard of Making a Murderer subject Steven Avery, the twice-convicted Wisconsin native seemed to grow uncharacteristically bitter with his former lawyers, even as new attorney Kathleen Zellner prepared his next appeal. All involved were taken aback last week when Avery’s “accomplice” Brendan Dassey had his conviction overturned, but what do Zellner and Avery believe it means for him?

Netflix has already announced a second season of Making a Murderer, their surprise hit true-crime series that captured the nation’s imagination last winter. The streaming service confirmed last month that filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos were already at work on a second batch of episodes “centering on new developments in the [Steven] Avery and [Brendan] Dassey cases. If that’s true, their show just got a huge real-life plot twist.
