History Developing 'Hatfields & McCoy's Reality Series?

These days, one of the surest ways to capitalize on an original blockbuster success is to develop a reality series inspired by its premise. We saw an example earlier this week with The CW putting into development a reality series with a striking similarity to 'The Hunger Games,' though this may be the most surprising example to date. Based on the runaway award-winning success of History's 'Hatfields & McCoys' the cable channel is going back to the well to develop a reality TV series around the descendants of the famous family. Will it be just as buzz-worthy?

Celebration Set for World's Longest-Burning Light Bulb

Let there be light!

A celebration honoring the anniversary of a light bulb that has been on for 110 years at a fire station in Livermore, California will take place this weekend.

The 60-watt light, which is only powered to four watts, was turned on in 1901 and has been burning up like a Lady Gaga song ever since.

Sunday’s tornado in Joplin, Missouri is now the deadliest in the U.S. since records of tornado fatalities began being kept more than 60 years ago, CNN reported. In Belgium Mardi Gras is the most important day of the year. Belgians celebrate the Carnival of Binche in the city of Binche, which features lots of music and dancing.

Sweden celebrates Fettisdagen, translating to "Fat Tuesday."

In Canada Mardi Gras is celebrated throughout the country, especially in the french-speaking Quebec, where the Quebec Winter Carnival is one of the most iconic of Canadian festivals.

Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday," a reference to the binge eating a lot of Catholics do before Lent. As is often the case with holidays, the Christian roots are intertwined with earlier pagan practices. It was very common for early church fathers to integrate elements of pagan ritual in an attempt to attract potential converts.

Mardi Gras itself originated in the Middle Ages and was brought to the U.S. by the French explorer Iberville. In 1827, Parisian-style masked balls were legalized in New Orleans after a long period of prohibition. The celebration soon became known for its celebrants' raucous behavior during fanciful parades.
