‘Star Wars’ Characters to Appear in ‘The Lego Movie’!
Can’t wait for ‘Star Wars: Episode 7‘ to hit the big screen in December, 2015? Turns out you won’t have to.
In addition to Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and all the DC Comics superheroes, ‘Star Wars‘ characters will be making an appearance in ‘The Lego Movie‘ next February. We didn’t think it was possible to get more excited for this movie.
The Wall Street Journal reports that despite Disney owning the rights to the ‘Star Wars’ characters and Warner Bros. releasing ‘The Lego Movie’ in theaters, the two companies have agreed on terms to allow characters from the ‘Star Wars’ universe to appear in the film. Exactly which characters have yet to be confirmed, but the report claims that an official unveiling is planned for “later” this year.
So, how exactly did two rival studios come to work out a deal to crossover these characters when Marvel and Fox/Sony can’t seem to figure out a way? Well, they may not have. As the WSJ reports, ‘The Lego Movie’ has been in development since prior to Disney acquiring Lucasfilm for $4 billion, and the deal may have been struck directly with Lucasfilm, who have an ongoing relationship with LEGO. None of the three companies involved would comment on the record.
In addition to the Warner Bros. owned characters in the DC universe, other properties confirmed to be involved are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and My Little Pony, with many more yet to be announced (we wouldn’t be surprised to see Harry Potter, who has existing deals with both Warner Bros. and LEGO, make an appearance).
Directed by Chris Miller and Phil Lord (’21 Jump Street’), ‘The Lego Movie’ features the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Elizabeth Banks, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Cobie Smulders.
‘The Lego Movie’ opens in theaters on February 14, 2014.
