A Duke Energy media relations spokesperson says a squirrel somehow tore into the Main 3-Phase Primary line of a main power line between Wheatland and Monroe City shortly after 8 a.m. EST this morning, cutting off power to 400 of Duke Energy customers.

Initially, crews thought that in order to get the power back on they would have to dig under US-50 and dig underground to fix the line.

But the damage appears to not be as extensive as they thought and Duke now says they will not have to dig to restore the power. Crews estimate the power will be restored in the area in a few hours.
