A Corydon, Indiana man got an up close and personal look at the black bear the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) confirmed the existence of on Monday when it showed up in his driveway.

After sharing the information released by the DNR on Monday confirming the existence of the bear on our Twitter account, Corydon resident, Bradly Mills responded with this photo.

How would you like to come home from a long day at work and see that standing in front of your garage?

As part of their press release Monday, the DNR included the following guidelines for residents to try and prevent these types of photos from becoming regular occurrences:

  • Don’t intentionally feed bears. If a bear becomes accustomed to finding food near your home, it may become a “problem” bear.
  • Eliminate food attractants by placing garbage cans inside a garage or shed.
  • Clean and store grills away after use.
  • Don’t leave pet food outside overnight.
  • Remove bird feeders and bird food from late March through November.
  • Don’t add meat or sweets to a compost pile.
  • If encountering a bear, don’t run. Shout, wave your arms and back away slowly.
  • Collect and remove low-hanging or fallen fruit from fruit trees.
  • Eliminate meat, cooking oil, fish or fruit odors from near your home. This includes fish-meal fertilizers.
  • Collect and remove any ripened vegetables from your garden.

The Department also asked residents who spot the bear to notify them by e-mail at dfwinput@dnr.IN.gov. Photos and videos of the animal are welcome, but can't exceed 15 MB due to e-mail size limits.
