‘SNL’s Kenan Thompson Developing NBC Sitcom, Is He Next to Go?

SNL Kenan Thompson NBC Sitcom
NBC

The current season of ‘SNL‘ has braved the departures of Andy Samberg, Kristen Wiig and Abby Elliott, with Jason Sudeikis and Seth Meyers rumored to follow, but can it handle another?  That friends, is the question we face after learning that ‘SNL’ vet Kenan Thompson and executive producer Lorne Michael have begun development of a new NBC sitcom, with Thompson set to star.  What premise does the sitcom take, and would it take Kenan away from the long-running sketch comedy series?

‘SNL’ fans may want to start soaking up all the Kenan Thompson they can, as we’ve just learned through The Hollywood Reporter that the former ‘Kenan & Kel’ and ‘All That’ funnyman has begun developing a potential NBC sitcom with executive producer Lorne Michaels, and ‘SNL’ writer Bryan Tucker.  If successful, it’s likely Thompson would leave behind his ten-year career with acclaimed NBC late-night comedy.

No title has been set for the script-committed comedy, though the series would see Thompson starring as Kenan Monroe, a man giving up his New York life to move into his in-laws’ house in the suburbs, where he goes up against “three generations of problems.”  Thompson will also write, and executive produce.

What say you?  Would you be sad to see Kenan Thompson leave ‘SNL’ behind for a new sitcom?
