During a press conference with the media Purdue Police Chief, John Cox said the shooter apparently targeted the one victim, and gave himself up willingly to authorities after the shooting.

CNN reports one person is dead after a shooting on the Purdue University campus earlier today.

As of 1:30pm EST, the "shelter in place" alert was lifted, and classes were proceeding as normal.

The building where the shooting took place was still closed to allow police the opportunity to continue their investigation.

The name of the suspect in custody has not been released to the public at this time.

Police reportedly have one suspect in custody connected to a report of shots fired on the Lafayette, Indiana campus early this afternoon.

Details are scarce at this time, however ABC News reports that "campus police confirmed that a shooting occurred at the electrical engineering building," prompting an immediate "shelter in place" alert to students and faculty on campus.

The report states that police have cleared the building where the shooting took place, but continue to search the area for evidence.

At this time, the University has not released any information in regards to any injuries.
