All of my adult life, money has never been plentiful.  When Jenny and I got married, we decided that even if money was short, we wouldn't skimp on quality food to eat.  In other words, we would eat healthy foods even if we had to spend a little more money to get them, and to do that, we would sacrifice in other areas, if need be.  It's always been important to us to eat nutritionally-packed foods, as opposed to getting by on cheaper but not-so-healthy foods.  So if you want healthy nutrition on a cheaper budget, try these (relatively) inexpensive "superfoods."

Beans are definitely a superfood.  They're packed with low-fat protein and they're inexpensive, the perfect combination to give you what you would normally get from meat.  And they're healthier for you!  (Besides, every time you eat some, you can dredge up fond memories of the campfire scene in "Blazing Saddles.")

Broccoli is one of my favorite superfoods.  I love it steamed and it's probably as close as you're going to get to the "perfect" food.  It's chocked full of vitamins C and K, high in fiber, iron, calcium and folate.

Other so-called superfoods include blueberries, oranges, soy, spinach, oats, turkey, walnuts, yogurt, wild salmon, pumpkin, soy and green or black tea.  Combining any or all of these regularly will help keep your health at an optimum level.  Eat hearty, and as Spock would say, live long and prosper!
