Join Mayor Lloyd Winnecke this week for the lighting of the official Christmas tree for the city of Evansville. Mayor Winnecke will light it up this Thursday at 5:15pm in front of the Civic Center.

The ceremony will include a couple holiday songs from the Central High School Choir, a few remarks from Mayor Winnecke, followed by a countdown to the lighting of the tree. Everyone is invited to attend. Be sure to bundle up!

This event wouldn't be possible without the help of a lot of people. The tree itself, beautiful 32-foot-tall blue spruce, has been donated by Roy Jorgenson and his family. Thanks to SKANSKA for providing a crew and the equipment needed to cut down the tree and get it downtown. And thanks to various corporate partners for providing the lights.

The Christmas tree will remain on display in front of the Civic Center building through the holiday season and will be removed sometime after January 1, 2015.
