Seattle Seahawks Star QB Russell Wilson Drafted by Texas Rangers

He may not know it, but Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is apparently a two-sport star.

The Texas Rangers selected Wilson in Major League Baseball’s Rule 5 draft Thursday. The Rangers chose Wilson with the 15th pick in the Triple-A part of the draft. Wilson had been property of the Colorado Rockies.

What does this mean? Well, if Wilson should ever try to play baseball again, it would be in the Rangers system, but the chances of that appear very slim at this point in time.

While at North Carolina State in 2010, Wilson was drafted in the fourth round by the Rockies after also being selected in 2007 out of high school by the Baltimore Orioles in the 41st round.

Wilson did play minor league ball for the Rockies in 2010 and 2011, hitting .229 with five home runs and 26 RBIs. He ultimately left the sport after to enroll at the University of Wisconsin where he quarterbacked the football team to a Rose Bowl berth.

This season, he has the Seahawks primed for a legitimate run at the Super Bowl and it’s hard to imagine the team would think too highly of him playing another sport and risking injury.

You can get a glimpse of Wilson’s baseball prowess in the video below, in which he shows off his power during a charity home run derby from this past summer.
