My sons made a proclamation a few weeks back they they wanted to take their lunch every day because the school lunches are gross. I looked on their menus and saw things like chicken patty sandwich, stuffed crust pepperoni pizza, burritos and tacos, which all looked fine to me. I asked them what was so bad and they looked at me like I was crazy. They pointed to things like the Asian Chicken with rice and chili as the primary culprits.

The only thing they like is the pizza...everything else is gross. So, I actually went to lunch with one of them and discovered they might have a point. I didn't think it was bad, but it certainly wasn't what I remember...you know, back before everything had to be good for you and was cooked in lard...everything tasted better in lard, didn't it?

That is the main complaint my boys have, that everything tastes like it is supposed to be good for you. They say there a lot of veggies in certain things and less of the meats and stuff that make them awesome. I asked them to define 'stuff' and they really didn't have an answer. They just said they never want to buy their lunch again, which made me bust out laughing.

I tried to explain to them the importance of proper nutrition and they wanted none of that!! Then I thought back to my 35-cent school lunch and realized that I only like three things....pizza, tacos and spaghetti. Everything else was nasty. I love hamburgers, but the hamburgers at my school tasted more like meat paste and why did everything on the tray smell like spinach when there wasn't any spinach??

I just though it was hilarious how adamant they were about never eating school lunches again, while realizing that nothing has really changed and that was actually kind of refreshing. What was your favorite school lunch?
