Whether we need/want it or not, in 2015 we're getting an updated version of the 1982 horror-classic Poltergeist. While the trailer looks decent - do we need another friggin' remake?

Are screenwriters simply out of fresh ideas? Is that what it's come down to? That seems to be the case. Now, to be fair, I understand remaking a movie that was pretty horrible the first time around. The Punisher comes to mind..ooh and Oceans Eleven too. But why is there a desire to remake a movie that was really awesome to begin with? Correct me if I'm wrong (seriously, give me examples), but more times than not, the original movie remains better than the remake.

Did we need an updated version of The Karate Kid? Nope. A modernized version of Annie? Not at all. Total Recall? I don't think so.

And this senseless trend continues in 2015 with another all-time great movie is being remade.

Asking "why more remakes" is kind of a broad question. So I'll get even more specific. Why remake Poltergeist? I seem to remember that movie scaring the crap out of me. That movie has provided some iconic pop culture references, and to me is still scary.

Like I said, the trailer looks pretty good (but we've all been disappointed by great trailers before) and I'm a big fan of Sam Rockwell. I might give this one a watch if/when it makes its way to Netflix. If not, I'll just pass.

What do you think?
