Over 50 Disney Movies Will Soon Make Hulu Their New Streaming Home

More streaming services than you can shake a virtual stick at have cropped up over the past year, which makes it all the more aggravating when that one movie you want to watch is nowhere to be found. You shell out every month for Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Shudder, Filmstruck and a dozen more, and yet once that craving to rewatch The Lion King hits, you’re plum out of luck. What’s the point of having countless hours of programming at your fingertips for your immediate enjoyment if that doesn’t include The Little Mermaid?

Hulu has heard your anguished 3 a.m. cries over the discovery that Pocahontas isn’t on Netflix (though Netflix does feature Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World, the “We don’t have Coke. Is Pepsi alright?” of video streaming availability) and they’ve got a response. A new press release from Hulu and Disney (via Deadline) yesterday announced plans for a multi-year partnership through which the streaming giant would be the exclusive home of over 50 Disney feature-length movies. Hulu currently has a first-run deal with its corporate parent Disney to house all their new TV programming and made-for-TV original movies (or DCOMs, as those who spent their ’90s childhoods indoors know to call them), but this new agreement would bring more high-profile offerings to Hulu’s library.

Though the announcement did not include a complete list of planned titles and indicated that Disney’s backlog of titles wouldn’t migrate in full, it was made clear that all of the following should expect to find a new home on Hulu: The Nightmare Before Christmas, Mulan, Pocahontas, Hercules, Sister Act, Air Bud, Lilo & Stitch, Tarzan, The Emperor’s New Groove, Muppet Treasure Island and The Princess and the Frog. More will most likely be revealed once the deal comes closer to taking effect — fingers crossed on the charming The Aristocats.
