New Orleans Hornets Are Changing Their Name To The Pelicans

Citing a better fit to the city of New Orleans, the NBA's Hornets will be changing their name in the 2013-2014 season to the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Pelican is used in many symbols in the New Orleans area and the one of Louisiana's nicknames is the 'Pelican State.'  The franchise released a new website with a video explaining the change.  The Hornets name dates back to 1988 when the team launched in Charlotte, the team's only previous home.
