Sharlto Copley and Neill Blomkamp have worked together for years, and it looks like they will continue to as Copley has recently revealed he will be the lead in Blomkamp's next film 'Chappie.'

Copley announced that he got the titular role this weekend on Facebook, but said little else, as he and Blomkamp seem to like keeping their secrets. It is known that Blomkamp started working on 'Chappie' while in the midst of creating 'Elysium,' which comes out this summer.  Plot details haven't leaked yet, thought Blomkamp mentioned the film to Empire a while back, and they got this out of him:

It’s a science-fiction comedy thing, that’s as far as I can go with that. District 9, Elysium and Chappie were all born out of some visual concept first. Chappie is the imagery, because I think I’m a visual person first, of this ridiculous robot character. It’s much more comedy based, and in an unusual setting."

The first thing we thought of when we heard this is Woody Allen's 'Sleeper' for whatever reason. 'Chappie' sounds like a nice break from the metaphor-heavy science fictions films Blomkamp's been making, and it's awesome that Copley appears to be the Robert De Niro to his Martin Scorsese, the Toshiro Mifune to his Akira Kurosawa.
