NBC’s ‘Chicago Fire’ Already Developing Its Own Spinoff?
Though the series initially got off to a rocky start, NBC’s Dick Wolf-produced procedural drama ‘Chicago Fire‘ has started to spread beyond the show itself. New reports suggest that the drama has already begun prepping its own spinoff drama to focus on another branch of Chicago’s finest, specifically the police deparment. Will the latest spinoff from Dick Wolf be the next ‘SVU‘ or ‘Law & Order: Los Angeles?’
Only partway through its inaugural season, and already ‘Chicago Fire’ is ready to craft a spinoff drama for NBC. Deadline reports that the increasingly popular fireman procedural may look to set up a series about the Chicago police department, planting seeds as early as the ‘Chicago Fire’ finale.
‘Chicago Fire’ creators and executive producers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt will develop the new series with executive producer Matt Olmstead and Dick Wolf, whose company Wolf Films produces ‘Chicago Fire’ with Universal TV. A potential spinoff is seen as an early move to be certain, but an understandable one given NBC’s recent programming troubles of late.
It isn’t yet known if characters from ‘Chicago Fire’ would transfer over to the new series, but most likely among the cast is that of Jon Seda, who plays Chicago PD Detective Antonio Dawson in a recurring capacity.
What say you? Do you think ‘Chicago Fire’ is jumping the gun with a spinoff, or would you be eager to go inside the Chicago police department?
