After being traded by the Texas Rangers to the Philadelphia Phillies as part of the Cole Hamel trade a few weeks back, Mater Dei graduate Jerad Eickhoff got the call every young baseball player hopes for on Wednesday when he was told he's moving up to the Big Leagues and will make his MLB debut Wednesday against the Miami Marlins.

Eickhoff has made quite an impression in the minors since being selected by the Rangers in the 15th round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of Olney Central College having compiled a 4.14 Career ERA according to Baseball-Reference.com.

His most recent stint came with the Phillies Triple-A affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs where he went 2-1 with a 2.49 ERA. MLB.com ranks him as the Phillies number 15 prospect.

The call-up makes him only the second player from Mater Dei to make it all the way to the Bigs after Rob Maurer did it back in 1991, according to Pat Hickey at the Evansville Courier-Press. He's the seventh Evansville high school graduate to do it since 1967 joining Aaron Barrett, Heath Phillips and Andy Benes from Central, as well as Jeff Schulz and some guy you may know named Don Mattingly who played their high school ball at Memorial.

On behalf of the ESPN Evansville 105.3 family, we wish Jerad the best of luck as he lives out his dream of becoming a Major League baseball player.
