David Letterman Remains With ‘Late Show’ Through 2015

The late-night landscape will look drastically different by this time next year, now that Jimmy Fallon will take over for Jay Leno as host of ‘The Tonight Show‘ in early 2014, but some things will at least stay the same. Extending his own 2014 contract, David Letterman has re-signed to stick with CBS’ ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ through at least 2015.

No word yet if Letterman would potentially abdicate the throne in 2015 (no, Louis C.K., Jerry Seinfeld or Chris Rock are not on deck), though the long-running Letterman seems in good spirits to continue his previous contract another year.

“There is only one Dave, and we are extremely proud that he continues to call CBS ‘home,’” said CBS CEO and president Leslie Moonves of the decision. Adds Letterman, “Les and I had a lengthy discussion, and we both agreed that I needed a little more time to fully run the show into the ground.”

For its part, ‘Late Show’ rarely comes close to overtaking Jay Leno’s ‘Tonight Show’ in the ratings, though Letterman’s 2013 premiere came in at 3.14 million viewers, up from the previous year. Letterman also remains the longest running late-night talk-show host in history, clocking in at 31 years and counting.

What do you think? Should Letterman throw in the towel in 2015, and if so, who would be fit to replace the long-running ‘Late Night’ host?
