Marvel President Kevin Feige Updates on Phase 3, ‘Doctor Strange,’ ‘Daredevil’ and More
Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, is the man with all the superhero secrets. He knows everything about all the Marvel movies we will be getting and hope to be getting, and naturally when Mr. Feige goes out in public to promote 'Thor 2,' you can bet he's gonna get a ton of questions about the current and upcoming slate of Marvel movies.
As it so happens, he did get those questions and he gave a lot of answers. So, what have we learned about Phase 3?
As he's said previously, Feige again stated that we shouldn't expect any official announcements on future Marvel movies before next summer, telling Movies.com, "it'll be the middle of next year before we announce officially what the post Ant-Man films will be." Before you jump to the conclusion that the announcement will be at Comic-Con 2014, Feige added, "stuff might happen before that."
But, what stuff?
Let's go down the list of rumored projects and see what Mr. Feige has updated us on.
Feige again reiterated the "active development" of a 'Doctor Strange' movie but said they're still trying to figure out "how to make it a great movie." Even though it's the only film Feige has ever confirmed as being in "active development," he stopped short of saying it's something we should expect in Phase 3.
With 'Daredevil' and 'Punisher' back in the Marvel fold after unsuccessful runs at Fox and Lionsgate, respectively, a lot of people want to know what plans Marvel has for them. Feige told Bleeding Cool, "We’re trying to figure out what to do with Daredevil now. Punisher could show up at one point." Which is just about the vaguest answer yet. It seems like they have a more clear idea of what they want to do with Punisher if he could already "show up" at some point.
Where he'll show up remains unclear, but one theory we've had is that The Punisher could be part of Marvel's new TV empire based around the Marvel Knights. This would allow Punisher, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Moon Knight, Cloak and Dagger and some of the smaller Marvel characters to come together on the small screen, not unlike how 'The Avengers' formed a superhero crossover movie on the big-screen.
When asked directly on when we might see Marvel's first standalone female-led superhero film, Feige definitely seemed interested but had no concrete details, telling Movies.com, "In terms of a solo standalone female hero, I'm not sure when that will be." Feige copped to having no idea what DC was doing and didn't seem at all concerned with trying to beat 'Wonder Woman' to the big screen.
So, what do you think? If Phase 2 is made up of five films ('Iron Man 3,' 'Thor 2,' 'Captain America 2,' 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'The Avengers 2'), what films would you want to see in Phase 3? You have to assume that 'Thor 3,' 'Captain America 3,' 'Ant-Man' and 'Avengers 3' will be in the mix somewhere but how should the rest of these properties fit into that plan?
