In case you didn't know, there is currently a plan in place to build a pedestrian bridge that will cross over the Lloyd Expressway near Vann Ave. Well I received an update today from Mayor Winnecke's office which I thought was very interesting. It would have to be interesting considering we're still two years away from beginning construction...right?

The goal of this project is to provide a safe pedestrian passage and to link recreational facilities around the Evansville State Hospital grounds on the south side of S.R. 66 (Lloyd Expressway) to those recreational facilities (Wesselman Park and Wesselman Nature Preserve, and eventually Roberts Park) on the north side of the Lloyd Expressway.

But construction isn't expected to begin until early 2015...so what kind of update could we have/need at this point? Well, this is the update we needed to know about. During a subsurface investigation near the construction site on the former State Hospital Grounds, remnants of an unmarked cemetery were found. The City of Evansville is currently working with archaeologists, environmental scientists, INDOT and the State Historic Preservation Officer to determine the appropriate steps to handle these findings.

Maybe I'm just a little twisted, but I think that is very interesting.
