Synthetic drugs are specifically made to mimic the effects of their illegal counterparts. But with so many variations on these chemical cocktails, it can be difficult to keep track of what’s emerging on the drug scene and the impact it can have on Hoosier teens.

In response to growing use of synthetic drugs like K2/spice and bath salts among teens, the Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) is hosting a forum as part of its Youth Worker Café series. This event will feature Donna Lilly, a chemical dependency coordinate at Deaconess Cross Pointe. Lilly will speak about these highly addictive synthetic drugs and the effects they have on young people. She also will discuss the warnings signs every adult needs to know. In addition, Lilly will talk about what to do for someone who is using these drugs or who has been around someone who is using these drugs.

IYI’s Youth Worker Café will be from 11:30am-1pm on Thursday, September 24 at CountryMark Pavilion, 6855 Lower New Harmony Road in Mt. Vernon.

As part of IYI’s Youth Worker Café program, the forum and lunch are free, but reservations are required. Please RSVP at www.iyi.org/ywc. If you have trouble with the link, contact IYI Statewide Outreach Manager Debbie Jones via email at djones@iyi.org.

Youth Worker Cafés are designed to bring together local youth workers to build relationships and inspire collaborations that will benefit children. This Youth Worker Café is made possible through the collaboration of Promoting a Drug Free Community in Posey County, Family Matters and IYI.
