How to Turn Your Grill into a Smoker and Make Delicious Pulled Pork [RECIPE]
Over the 4th of July weekend, I was entrusted with the task of making the meat for my family's fireworks show. I opted for pulled pork because it's easy to transport when finished.
I have found the best way to make pulled pork is with a nice slow cooked Boston Butt and rounded off on the grill. But, I love a good smokey taste too and since I don't have a smoker, I had to improvise. So, here's what I did.
INGREDIENTS
- 20 LB Boston Butt
- Grill Mates Garlic Herb Seasoning
- BBQ sauce
- Soy sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- Grilling planks
DIRECTIONS
- Top BB with soy sauce and seasoning. Pour water in bottom of pan.Bake BB in oven or Nesco at 300 for six hours with FAT SIDE UP.
- When the meat starts to become tender - you can see it separating from the bone, heat your grill to 300-350. Soak wood planks in water for AT LEAST 15 minutes.
- Place planks in a row on your heated grill. I used three because it's a big piece of meat! Place meat (in pan) on top of your planks.
- Cook for 30-45 minutes. BEWARE - this method produces a LOT of smoke so this will work with large roasts but not smaller cuts like chicken or salmon. You can use single planks or wood chips in a tin foil bowl for these cuts.
- Check to make sure the planks do not catch on fire! If they get too hot, place tin foil under the planks.
- When the meat is done it will fall apart. Mix in BBQ sauce! Enjoy!
