A new twist to our Celebration will be a flight demo by the Aviation Explorer Post 447. They will fly a single-aircraft demonstration of six passes in a Piper PA28 Cherokee. It lasts for around 10 minutes. The demo for Newburgh is at 7:15.

At 8:45 the proclamation will be read. American Legion Kapperman 44 has graciously donated a new flag to be flown at the Lock and Dam Park which will be raised at that time and then Wanda Kavanagh will sing the National Anthem. Bill Bartelt will read an excerpt from the U.S. Constituion. Fireworks begin at dusk which is approximately 9pm.

French Island Trail (SR 662) between East Jennings Street and Westervelt will be closed on July 4th beginning at 6:00pm. The boat launch parking area at the foot of the Old Lock and Dam Building on French Island Trail will be closed July 4 from 1:00p.m.-11 p.m. Should there be a rain delay for the fireworks; the same restrictions will apply on July 6.

Only public safety personnel will be allowed on the lower level and other areas designated the safety zone during the evening of the fireworks. Police Chief Brett Sprinkle said “there will be no watercraft launching or landing from the public launch site, 1:00 p.m.-11 p.m. on July 4.”

Boaters who plan to launch before July 4 and stay out through the holiday will need to park at the east end of the parking area on the lower level, according to Town Manager, Cynthia Burger. There will be limited handicapped parking available at the east end of the park. To access handicapped parking, drivers should enter the park from the east, via Westervelt.

The Warrick County Transit System WATS bus and Expressway Dodge van will begin running at 6:30pm on July 4th from Newburgh Elementary School, Peoples Trust and Savings Bank, and Newburgh Presbyterian Church to the Old Lock and Dam Park and will run continuously until after the fireworks are over.
