The Mater Dei Wildcats look to remain undefeated on the 2014 season as they head to northern Vanderburgh County to take on the 1-3 North Huskies.

The Huskies secured their first win of the season with a 37-6 win over Harrison last Friday night a Romain Stadium. First year quarterback, senior Zach Pate was efficient in the outing going 4-8 for 129 yards, and two scores.

The defense also showed up big for North against the Warriors as they held quarterback Ryan Hales, who Mater Dei head coach, Mike Goebel considers to be the best quarterback in town, to negative 59 yards on six carries (mainly due to sacks), and the entire Warriors offense to negative 85 yards on 33 carries.

North also appeared to correct the turnover issues they had in the first few weeks of the season, fumbling the ball only once against Harrison after 18 fumbles in the first three weeks of the season, 11 of which resulted in turnovers.

They'll no doubt have a fight on their hands this week as they host Mater Dei who comes into the game undefeated after disposing of Memorial last week 28-7.

Known for years as a quarterback driven program, the Wildcats remain undefeated despite the lack of an official starting signal caller so far this season. Junior Rob Bowe, and sophomore Curtis Wilderman have split time under center throughout the season, which as a Mater Dei graduate, I don't remember ever being done before.

It's clearly working for the Wildcats as each player brings his own special skill to the position. Bowe being the mobile quarterback, relying more on his legs to make plays over his arms, whereas Wilderman brings the exact opposite, with the ability to stretch the field and let loose on deep passes instead of using his feet to keep plays alive.

The x-factor for Mater Dei is Julian Weidner, who is a dominant player for the Wildcats on both sides of the ball. One of the more dynamic players in the area, Weidner has done most of his damage against opposing defenses in the rushing game despite being listed as a wide receiver. The Wildcats will have him run out of the slot receiver position on a jet sweep, or just straight line him up at the running back position. Regardless of where he is on the field, opposing defenses have to game plan for him and be prepared for the ball to find its way into his hands. He's also shown tremendous ability on the defensive side of the ball from the defensive back position where his speed allows him to keep pace with the quickest receivers in the conference.
