This time of year, it's so important for our food banks to have fully stocked shelves for hungry people in the tristate. The Tri-State Food Bank has several upcoming events that need volunteers. This would be a great way for young adults and kids to volunteer with their parents and learn about being compassionate to our fellow man. - Kathleen Albin

Buehler’s Turkey and Ham Drive, Nov. 26:
Volunteers are positioned outside the doors to the Buehler’s stores on Morgan Ave and 1st Ave and hand out slips of paper. These slips encourage shoppers to think of the less fortunate while shopping. Items purchased for donation (Including turkeys and hams) can be dropped off as the shopper exits the store. We need up to 4 individuals at any given time between the hours of 8am and 6pm. First Avenue location is where we currently need the most help at this time, starting at 8am.

Schnucks’ Turkey and Ham Drive, December 20th:
Volunteers are positioned outside the doors of several Schnuck’s locations and hand out slips of paper. These slips encourage shoppers to think of the less fortunate while shopping. Items purchased for donation (Including turkeys and hams) can be dropped off as the shopper exits the store. We need up to 4 individuals at a store at any given time between 8am and 8pm to hand out flyers. We still have 2-3 stores that are not covered. Ideally, we will have a group to “sponsor” a location and be there all day, or at least half the day, although individuals are also welcome! Locations remaining are: Newburgh, West Lloyd and First Avenue.

Holiday Giveaway, December 12th & 13th:

Our biggest event of the year, many volunteers are needed. Volunteer activities include: refilling tables with product from skids so clients can take them as they walk through, traffic control, helping load vehicles, escorting clients through line, and several other “floater” positions to help. We need up to 15 (even to 20, depending on the day/time) at any given time between 8am and 5pm on the 12th and 8am to 4pm on the 13th.
