EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Police in Evansville are investigating whether a 16-year-old boy who died was accidentally shot in the head by a friend.The Vanderburgh County coroner's office says Logan Burke died yesterday. Investigators believe that Burke was shot by an 18-year-old friend while the two were in the apartment where the older teen lives.

MUNSTER, Ind. (AP) — A state official says no effort will be made to reclaim the Indiana Toll Road from its private operator that filed for bankruptcy protection last month. Indiana Public Finance director Kendra York says the state didn't want to take over responsibility for running and maintaining the 157-mile road. The state hadn't increase tolls for 20 years.

GARY, Ind. (AP) — One of the last obstacles to an expansion of Gary/Chicago International Airport has been removed. Work crews began ripping up a section of Canadian National Railway tracks yesterday. Canadian National trains should be riding on new tracks that take them around the airport by tonight. The expanded runway will be able to accommodate larger aircraft and possibly open up service into new markets.

PERU, Ind. (AP) — Police say 5-foot-tall bird called a rhea forced the closing of a highway near the city of Peru for about 10 minutes while officers and motorists tried to corral it. Rheas are native to South America and similar to ostriches and emus. An animal control officer shot the bird with a tranquilizer dart but the bird fled into traffic.
