Head to Oak Hill Cemetery Saturday for the Annual Howl O’Ween Event
This Saturday bring your pets & your family for the Annual Howl O'Ween event at Oak Hill Cemetery to benefit the Spirit Medical Fund.
On Saturday October 24th, you can take part in a great fundraising all while having a ton of fun! The Annual Howl O'Ween event to benefit the Spirit Medical Fund. It's all starts at 11am at Oak Hill Cemetery.
What Is The Spirit Medical Fund?
The Spirit Medical Fund helps with medical care expenses for stray, homeless and abandoned animals that arrive at Evansville-Vanderburgh Animal Care & Control. From Evansvillegov.org:
The SPIRIT MEDICAL FUND was established after a brave little dachshund mix, later named Spirit, survived a horrific ordeal of animal cruelty. Spirit was found at the [Oak] Hill Cemetery around Halloween 2000. She had been doused with gasoline, set on fire, and left to die. When found, she was close to death. Although she was in very poor health, she still had the will to live. In order for this to be possible, she needed costly medical treatments. The community reached out and provided us with the needed money. This was the beginning of the SPIRIT MEDICAL FUND.
Responsible pet owners are invited to bring their special 4-legged friend to Annual Howl O’ Ween. The suggested donation to participate in the event is $5. A Pet Historic Walking tour will begin at 11:30am followed by the Halloween Costume Contest at 1pm on the Veteran’s Plaza. The suggested donation to enter your pet is $5 with all proceeds benefiting the Spirit Medical Fund. There will be celebrity judges with prizes offered in each of the following Classes: Large Dog, Medium Dog, Small Dog, and Cat.
Prizes will be given away at the end of the event with the help of a few celebrity judges. The public is encouraged to come out and support Howl O’ Ween even if you do not own a 4 legged friend. Dogs and cats from Animal Care’s Control will be available for “temporary” adoption for the afternoon or maybe even permanently adoptable, if you’d like to give them a forever home.
